Human-Computer Interaction

This course will introduce students to issues in the design, implementation,
and evaluation of user interfaces for computer systems. Concepts in human
factors, usability, and interface design will be covered, and the effects of
human capabilities and limitations on interaction with computer systems will
be studied. Students will apply the concepts to the design and implementation
of graphical user interfaces. Units on experimental design and statistical
analysis, as well as new topics in HCI will be included.

- Class is held Tuesday/Thursday 9:30 - 10:45 in Dawson 208, and Wednesday 10:10 - 11:00 in Boyd 208
- Office hours with Dr. Kraemer: Fridays from 10-12 in Barrow 217
Course resources
- A Topical Outline and a
calendar, containing links to project assignments,
online materials, online versions of lecture notes, etc. -- updated frequently.
- Textbooks:
- Readings in human computer interaction and implementation
technologies will be made available online or distributed
in class.
- A good Java book -- Deitel's Java: How to Program is
a good choice. Version 5 or 6.
